Licensing information for South Australia
In South Australia, you can keep pretty much anything (check the website). Nothing can be taken from the wild - all animals must be bought from a dealer. Some animals are exempt from requiring a permit to buy and sell, but most need a permit to keep, buy and sell. Basic and specialist animal permit holders are required to keep a record book and submit it at the end of every financial year.
Basic permits are apparently free and generally given on request. Specialist permits need proof of experience and facilities. This is for hard to keep and rare animals. If you are going to sell an animal in SA, you must fill out a dealer's permit, which has a cost associated with it, which is just over $50/year.
